Virology Testing Laboratory

Since 1991, Our Virology Laboratory aids clients in new product development, R&D projects, marketing claims, and supporting EPA, FDA, EU, and Health Canada label claims label claims. Our virology laboratory personnel are well-trained on the various ASTM and EN standard methods.

Combining our virology capabilities with over 20 years of experience in conducting GLP and GCP compliant studies, we can offer a start-to-finish solution.

•       Virucides
Antiviral Drugs
•       Disinfectants

The Virology Department utilizes volunteer human subjects to evaluate handwash and handrub products for antiviral efficacy. The products tested range from healthcare personnel hand cleansers to over-the-counter antimicrobial products for the general consumer.

Methodologies are based upon American Society for Testing and Materials Methods E1838, Determining the Virus Eliminating Effectiveness of Liquid Hygienic Handwash Agents Using the Fingerpads of Adult Volunteers, and E2011, Standard Test Method for Evaluation of Handwashing Formulations for Virus Eliminating Activity Using the Entire Hand, or are custom-designed, as necessary.

High-Throughput Screening Method

Dr. Volha Dzyakanava has developed a high-throughput screening method geared toward product formulators who are interested in testing multiple concentrations or multiple products for efficacy versus specific viruses. Currently this method is available for the following viruses:

•       Poliovirus
•       Hepatitis A Virus
•       Herpes Simples Virus Type 1 & 2
•       Feline Calicivirus
•       Adenovirus
•       HIV-1

•       Virology Disinfectant Testing

•       Virucidal Suspension Test

•       ASTM-E1838 Fingerpad method

•       ASTM-E2011 Whole Hand Viral Test

•       Minimum Inhibitory Concentration

•       Clinical Evaluations

•       Studies Using In-Vitro Skin Models

•       Mechanisms of Antiviral Activity

•       Antiviral Drug Screening

Most commonly tested viruses:

Avian Influenza Virus
Bovine Parvovirus
Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (Hepatitis C Surrogate)*
Feline Calicivirus (Norwalk Surrogate)*
Hepatitis A*
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2
Human Coronavirus
Human Influenza Virus A & B
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Respiratory Syncytial Virus
*Available for clinical trials
